History & Significance
CBS acquired Fender in 1965 and introduced the 3rd Generation Stratocater which was produced until 1984, and are known as "CBS" era models. CBS Strats featured a rosewood fretboard on maple neck (with a maple fretboard option). Other key changes included a Larger headstock, a Four-bolt neck from 1965-70, change to a Three-bolt neck from 1974-81, and a Five-way selector from 1977-84.
Note: ALL Stratocasters (and Telecasters) in 1985 were made in Fender Japan due to US move from Fullerton, Ca to Corona, Ca.
